with you
but there are moments in time
burned in my mind
about tucson
driving in the desert and then the mountains
sleeping in our tent
going for dinner after we got married
the university campus
the road and the view up to the conservatory
the bench at that little park
and the way the warm air felt so nice
even at night

well, it was 5 years ago this morning
that we made our way down to the
county courthouse in tucson
to find out if we could actually get married
and at about 6pm we were standing
outside the rose garden gates
in front on perfect strangers
vowing to love each other
as we became husband and wife

it doesn't bother me at all that we didn't write
our own vows
they were beautiful and meaningful all the same

Now you will feel no rain, for each of you will be the shelter to the other.
Now you will feel no cold, for each of you shall be the warmth to the other.
Now there is no more loneliness for you.
Now there is no more loneliness.
Now you are two bodies, but there is only one life before you.
Go now to your dwelling place to enter into the days of your togetherness.

5 years feels like
a milestone
it's not 10 or 20 or 40 yet
but it's something

somewhere foreign or exotic

without all the distractions
and chaos

and how important
and wonderful
it really is

soooo...it's our anniversary in a couple of days
5 years married
although we've been together
even longer
in some ways it feels like
a totally different lifetime ago
and in others it's just
the blink
of an
eye

I'm the kind of person
who would always change things
when I look back and see
where I could have done better

so instead I will look ahead
and try to do better and be
smarter sooner
and work harder
so that when we look back in
